In the latest Tech Cities Job Watch report their findings support the increase in demand for Big Data talent, with year-on-year growth of 78%. More specifically, contractor demand has grown by 128% and permanent roles by 68% over the same period. This increase outstrips demand across other important skills markets, including Mobile (26%) and Cloud (30%).

For contract, despite London remaining the vital hub for technology jobs of all disciplines, Tech Cities Job Watch reported seeing a gradual devolution of Big Data roles to the wider UK. As a result, London’s share of the country’s Big Data market has fallen from 85% in Q1 2017 to 74% in Q1 2018.

For permanent this quarter, 47,535 permanent roles were advertised across the five disciplines and ten Tech Cities. This demonstrates a year-on-year growth of 44% (since Q4 2017).

The most in demand qualifications and skills for specific Big Data roles include AWS, Python, Hadoop, Spark, Cloudera, MongoDB, Hive, Tableau and Java.
