He was joined by the X4 Technology team alongside a great group of individuals from technology and financial businesses in the USA.<\/p>\n<p>There were lots of great insights and experiences shared from a variety of people including HR specialists, CTO&#8217;s and founders, which we have included below:<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_width=&#8221;stretch_row&#8221; el_class=&#8221;light&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-top: 30px;\"><strong>On-Boarding Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure you are in\u00a0<strong>regular contact prior to their start date<\/strong>\u00a0to help them feel secure (now especially people are feeling more anxious about their job security) and use this as an opportunity to give them reading material, so they are fully prepared on day 1.<\/li>\n<li>Find out what their\u00a0<strong>remote working set up and schedule<\/strong>\u00a0is. Do they have childcare responsibilities, do they prefer to start their day at 7am to finish at 4pm etc. The benefit of working from home is more flexibility in your work schedule, so make sure this is discussed beforehand so you both agree on the best times to communicate.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Planning well in advance<\/strong>\u00a0is crucial for a smooth on-boarding process. Have all the documents signed and tech set-up on their device ready for day 1.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure remote workers still get the\u00a0<strong>first day experience<\/strong>\u00a0of lunch with the team by setting up a lunch video meeting and giving them Deliveroo credit (or something similar).<\/li>\n<li>When you are team building online,<strong>\u00a0culture won\u2019t just magically happen.<\/strong>\u00a0Building culture remotely is all about how you work and communicate. There are great collaborative and fun tools such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/slack.com\/intl\/en-gb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Slack<\/strong><\/a>, which acts as a virtual office, that will help you build your culture remotely. It\u2019s important to research and find the tool that\u2019s right for your business.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/whereby.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Whereby<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is also a highly recommended collaboration\/culture tool as an alternative to Zoom providing you with video meetings in the browser \u2013 no downloads &amp; no logins for guests.<\/li>\n<li>Help make the\u00a0<strong>process as straight-forward as possible<\/strong>\u00a0by having a checklist to follow with the specific things that need to be covered off at every stage e.g. day 1 checklist, week 1 checklist.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be transparent about the current situation<\/strong>\u00a0and the effects this is having on the industry and your business. Make your new starter feel secure by sharing your business vision and goals and explain why their role is instrumental to the company\u2019s mission.<\/li>\n<li>First impressions count<strong>. Stick to schedules,\u00a0<\/strong>stay on track and ensure all people involved are fully aware of their responsibilities and the times they are needed from HR &amp; L&amp;D to the CEO.<\/li>\n<li>Get as much\u00a0<strong>face to face video time<\/strong>\u00a0with the rest of the team as possible so the new starter feels like part of the team from day one. Try and make this fun. Can you set up a quiz or virtual drinks with the team on a Thursday?<\/li>\n<li>Be available. Whether this is a manager, another team member or an allocated buddy, make sure they responding\u00a0<strong>quickly to any questions\u00a0<\/strong>and the new starter knows who their main point of call is.<\/li>\n<li>Once the standard company policies are ticked off, make sure the on-boarding process is\u00a0<strong>personalised to that individual\u2019s role\u00a0<\/strong>e.g. what specific training will they be going through in their first 3-6 months.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_width=&#8221;stretch_row&#8221; el_class=&#8221;dark&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/strong><strong>Useful guides to include in the welcome pack<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u201cHow to\u201d guide<\/strong>\u00a0on all tech and online resources e.g. Slack, Trello, Microsoft Teams, CRM.<\/li>\n<li>Company pack that includes\u00a0<strong>company history, vision, mission, culture, CSR, goals, leadership team bios<\/strong>\u00a0etc.<\/li>\n<li>Key contact information.\u00a0<strong>Who is their go to person for tech support, personal issues, holiday request<\/strong>\u00a0etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Week one timetable<\/strong> with an overview of each day so they have a clear understanding of what their first week looks like (you might then do something similar for month 1 and split this out weekly).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Over the coming weeks, Peter will be delving deeper into many of the topics listed below as he continues to speak to more industry leaders and you can keep up to date with the discussions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.x4technology.co.uk\/category\/insights\/\">here<\/a>.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row full_width=&#8221;stretch_row&#8221; el_class=&#8221;dark&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text] Peter Rabey, Co-founder and Director of X4, hosted our first virtual event discussing on-boarding employees remotely.
